Material Girl

Hello Lovelies,

I hope all is well. So we're in the beginning days of November and the year is coming to a close. I have no idea where 2014 went but I can say I was blessed in so many ways and I cannot wait to see what 2015 has hidden under her sleeve.
\
This " Outfit of the Day" is featuring my favorite material ......leather. I think I'm obsessed with leather because it speaks to a few different sides of me. It has sex appeal, but is still edgy and definitely screams confidence. Most of these pieces are faux  leather but genuine leather is expensive so I think it's great that faux leather pieces are available. It seems to have become even more popular than the real deal. If you like this look say tuned for the details listed below!

Always with love,

A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN

Outfit Details

Hat: K Mart
Blouse: H&M
Skirt: Burlington Coat Factory
Shoes: DSW
Necklace: My Mother
Bracelets: Alex and Ani

So it's August and the summer is quickly coming to a close. Usually by this time I'm ready for Fall but for some reason this year I don't want the summer to go. I have been through a lot personally these last few months so I think the energy of summer served as a light in my life. It could also be because the Winter was absolutely dreadful and I never want to experience anything like that again. At least we have Fall fashion to look forward to.

While visiting my mom in Brooklyn I noticed her building opened this little garden area that I thought was so cute. The lighting was just right. It's kind of hard to find peace in Brooklyn so I really enjoyed hanging out with her in this little hide away.

Have a great week!

THE BOOK OF LOOKS FEATURING WARBY PARKER AND THE HOME TRY ON PROGRAM

Hello Everyone,

HAPPY JULY! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend. I definitely did. I spent time with family and friends, went to a few parties, and ate some really good BBQ. I'm just really excited that summer is finally here.

I know starting the week after a long holiday can be hard but this week it didn't seem so bad because I received an awesome package from Warby Parker in the mail a couple of days ago and I just couldn't wait to share it with you guys.

Warby Parker is a great eyewear company that makes very cool seeing and sunglasses. They are especially fantastic because with every pair you purchase another is donated to someone in need. Eye care is definitely very important so it is great that Warby Parker is giving the opportunity for all people to see better and brighter.

Sometimes finding the perfect glasses can be tricky. You think you like a pair but what if they don't fit your face they way you would like. Or maybe you want to try a new frame design but don't know if it's exactly your style. Warby Parker has a great option called the Home Try-On program perfect for helping you make the best decision for you and your eyes. How does it work?

Step 1: Visit WarbyParker.com

Step 2: Choose five pairs you would like to try on

Step 3: Once received in 2-3 business days you have FIVE DAYS to take each pair out for a test drive. Don't be afraid to ask friends in person and on social media about their opinion on your frames. Use tag #WarbyHomeTryOn for their input too!

Step 4: Decide on which pairs are a no or a go and order your brand new frames on WarbyParker.com

Step 5: Send all the glasses back in their original packaging with the shipping label they provide. Then sit back and relax because your new frames are on their way.

The only frames that cannot be selected are those from the Karlie Kross collection but don't worry, there are plenty of fabulous designs in the summer collection to pick from.

Here are a few pairs I choose for my Home Try-On and of course I had to give you some summer style to go along with it.  I had a great time looking through these shades so I hope you enjoy The Book of Looks.

Shoes: Posh Flame Boutique
Sunglasses: Beauty supply store

A bright and sunny day after snow fall turns out to be perfect scenery for a quick look of the day shoot so I decided to pose for a few flicks before heading out to a fashion benefit at The High school of Fashion Industries in midtown. While staying true to my black and white I couldn't help but add this pop of red when I FINALLY saw an opportunity to wear these insane shoes received from Posh Flame Boutique.
We're getting warmer days here and there but I cannot wait for the weather to break.
As always, thank you guys for stopping by.

Old To You, New to Them

Hat: Perry Ellis
Sunglasses: Forever 21
Coat: Goodwill
Dress: Urban Outfitters
 Belt: H&M
Bag: Zara
Shoes: 630

Photo cred: Camille Davis

This look is especially special to me because it's comprised of garments from my parents. My hat is an old Perry Ellis fedora given to me by my dad and the no name wool coat was taken from my mother's closet. BOTH items have been on this earth longer then I have. I found this pleated hounds tooth dress on a sale rack in Urban Outfitters my sophomore year of college.

Despite how "dated" all these pieces are they still happened to coordinate in a way that is very current. Moral to the story is just because something is seasons old doesn't mean it can't be transformed into a look of the times. If it is well made piece and flattering to you, you can find ways to update it. NO ONE KNOWS IT'S OLD BUT YOU. Re-invent. Re-create.

I was inspired by Kim K's over sized coat trend. I couldn't afford to run out and by an expensive coat that I might not even want to wear next season, so I found this coat in our coat closet and paired it with this short dress and strappy cheetah pumps to add a feminine touch.

Now you try. Did I hear someone say style challenge?

Soooo I was feeling very feminine, yet classy, yet chic, yet minimal this morning. Most of all I wanted to look like a lady. I feel like the females in my generation are so concerned with looking sexy or "bad" but no one wants to look refined or elegant. Anyways, the only thing I can think of that embodies ALL of this is the little black dress. The LBD is definitely a fashion staple and every woman should own one. ut what if the occasio isn't formal? I dressed the LBD down by adding this bold cardigan on top . Instead of heels I threw on the BCCG flats I scored from TJ Maxx, making the look casual and comfortable. flats I scored from TJ Maxx.

When trying to make The Little Black Dress Day appropriate add some color and playful accessories.
On a personal note life has been a little hectic lately and I have experienced some down days. I can say that I have decided to not dwell on the things that I can not change. I am focusing on the positive in my life and although some nights may be rough, joy comes in the morning. Laugh. Smile. Rejoice.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the week my loves.
